After many months of planning, on April 13th, 2008, we held our first Pre-Dental Outreach project. The event took place at the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children. We were able to find several volunteer dentists, assistants, and MCG dental students to provide free dental screenings for over 50 women and children. If any problems were found, the patient was referred to one of the many free dental clinics of Atlanta. We were able to raise $3,000 in donations, as well as toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss for each patient. The money rasied was used to purchase a mobile dental unit, chair, and other supplies. The GT PDS is currently planning the next outreach project.
